Announcement: We regret to inform that speaker Han Xuemei will be unable to conduct her planned talk due to COVID-19. The event will continue as a sharing and networking session by NAFA, SDEA and NICA, with a Q&A at Studio 410a. Light refreshments will be provided.
Students in today’s world learn about themselves and the society they live in largely through social media and the Internet. Oftentimes, they find themselves with a lot of information about issues that they don’t know how to process and talk about.
How can drama create opportunities for students to learn about themselves and the world in a deep and meaningful way?
Referencing her work in forum theatre and arts-based community engagement with theatre company Drama Box, Xuemei shares her reflections on how Drama CCAs in schools can create a space and culture for dialogue and critical thinking through participatory drama.
- Drama CCA Instructors
- Drama CCA Teachers-in-charge
- Arts Educators
- School Leaders
Registration starts at 1.15pm.
This session will open with an address by SDEA and a sharing on capability development offerings by NAFA, and will be followed by a Q&A.
This talk is free with registration.
About the Speaker
Han Xuemei is a theatre practitioner based in Singapore. She believes in socially engaged practice, and imagines the arts as an integral ingredient for beauty and hope in society. Her artistic practice involves designing spaces and conditions for people to exercise their right to be creative, disrupt routines and deconstruct paradigms.
Her recent explorations FLOWERS (2019), The Gift (2018) and MISSING: The City of Lost Things (2018) are multi-disciplinary experiences that engage the audience in deeply visceral and personal ways.
She joined Drama Box in 2013, and was nominated by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (Singapore's national performing arts centre) to participate in the 2019 ADAM (Asia Discovers Asia Meeting) Artist Lab. In 2021, she was given the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council.
