Level Up! Fest 2023: The Anatomy of a Speech and Drama Class

This workshop is designed for teachers of speech and drama, who may wish to take a different look at the learning activities and class structures that facilitate the acquisition of skills and knowledge. The session will introduce an example class plan that is suitable for lower primary students. However, the principles may be applied to a range of age groups.  

The workshop will break down the activities and structures in a typical speech and drama class. Participants will explore how to provide specific opportunities for children to learn.  

The content of this workshop may be applicable to CCA activities and may provide some guidance to teachers as to how learning occurs. For example, activities that enable confidence to grow, vocabulary to be built and speech to be developed. 

About the Facilitator

Matt Grey has been acting and teaching drama related subjects for over 25 years. He trained under exemplary teachers at Julia Gabriel’s in Singapore and qualified with a Licentiate from Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He currently manages the Diploma in Performance at LASALLE College, University of the Arts Singapore. He holds a masters degree in Arts Pedagogy and Practice and is undertaking PhD research into Voice and Speech for Performers.
