This workshop highlights the use of drama strategies to engage students in authentic learning processes in the Secondary 2 and 3 Normal Technical stream English Language (EL) classroom in one of the secondary schools. Participants in the workshop will experience the activities that were conducted as part of the English lessons, and dialogue about the efficacy of the activities and how students were engaged through the drama process. 

About the Facilitator

Azyan Binte Azami, a Sociology and Malay Studies graduate from NUS, taught English and Social Studies for 8 years before pursuing a Master's in Education (Drama) in 2021. She integrates drama techniques to enhance language and literacy teaching, creating a safe space for students to enjoy experiential learning, cultivate their love for language, and improve their writing and communication skills.

Jennifer Wong is a Senior Lecturer and Assistant Head (Drama) in the Visual and Performing Arts Academic Group, National Institute of Education (Singapore). She teaches Arts-based Research, Applied Theatre, Theatre for young people and Introduction to Theatre and Performance courses in undergraduate and Master’s in Education classes.In addition to teaching, she is an applied theatre practitioner and researcher, and her research focuses on arts education, participatory arts with youth and theatre-making.

Level Up! Fest 2023

Level Up! Fest 2023 is a two-day learning festival specially curated for the Drama CCA Instructors and Teachers-in-charge. It will address some of the sector’s competency gaps, advance capabilities of educators and encourage the development of holistic Drama CCA experiences for students in today's world.

This year, Level Up! Fest is presented in partnership with Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NIE NTU, Singapore).

Gain new knowledge and strategies from 6 workshops designed and facilitated by faculty members from NAFA School of Arts Management, Dance & Theatre, LASALLE School of Dance and Theatre and NIE NTU Visual and Performing Arts Academic Group. From introductory programmes to in-depth skills development workshops, there is something for everyone!
