In collaboration with Participatory Collective ATTEMPTS, this workshop enables teachers and instructors to explore games and game design/theories in performance. Theatre games are popular in drama classrooms and school-based performances, but how do we utilise games in performance and create a unique experience for every audience, telling stories collectively with your audience?

This workshop will address this question by allowing participants to use video game design theories to reexamine the relationship between performance and spectator. What's better than having fun in drama? More games and more fun!

Recommended for Drama CCA Instructors and Drama CCA Teachers-in-charge.

About the Facilitator

Poh Cheng Leong, Rei is a theatre practitioner, director and actor interested in the use of gaming narratives within participatory theatre. As a citizen of "meritocratic" Singapore, Rei believes in embracing and celebrating failures.

He is a proud graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts’ Master of Directing for Performance programme and is the founder of a participatory performance collective ATTEMPTS. Rei has created thought-provoking participatory and forum theatre works like ATTEMPTS:SG, ATTEMPTS:MEL and莎莎》Girl In the White Sand Box. Rei’s recent projects include the showcase of DATING SIM (beta) — a participatory piece that experiments with video game-style narrative in LATE NIGHT TEXTING 2019 (Centre 42’s showcase of original text-based works by some of Singapore’s most promising independent theatre-makers), and DATING SIM’s multiple online versions in 2020 and 2021.
