Join theatre-maker Ramesh Meyyappan for a 3-hour practice-based introduction to how visual theatrical language can work. Using visual texts as a starting point, participants will explore visual ideas and storytelling possibilities, leading to the creation of a short visual narrative through choreographed movement and sign mime.

This workshop is open to drama educators, teaching artists, theatre practitioners, and arts practitioners who are interested in exploring visual theatrical language and physical storytelling.

In this workshop, participants will:

  1. Explore how visual theatrical language can support storytelling without spoken dialogue
  2. Use visual texts to generate visual ideas and narrative possibilities
  3. Learn and apply sign mime as a technique for representing objects, events, and actions through the body and hands
  4. Explore visual approaches to characterisation, including mimed props and character transitions
  5. Examine nuances of character presence and clarity in performance
  6. Collaboratively devise and develop a short visual narrative in a structured and supportive environment

This workshop is conducted in Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) and SgSL Interpretation will be available.
